Nylon adheres to the use of different temperatures

Nylon Bearings and Their Temperature Performance

Source: China Bearing Network | Date: February 5, 2014

Nylon cage bearings are commonly used in a variety of industrial applications due to their lightweight and low-friction properties. These bearings can operate effectively at temperatures below +120°C. However, it's important to note that the performance of the nylon cage is not significantly affected by the type of lubricant used in standard rolling bearings. That said, certain oils or greases containing base oils and extreme pressure (EP) additives may perform differently under high-temperature conditions. When operating under prolonged high temperatures or in harsh environments, it is advisable to use stamped steel cages or machined brass cages instead of nylon ones. These materials offer better thermal stability and durability in such situations. For equipment that operates with refrigerants like ammonia or Freon substitutes, where the working temperature remains below 70°C, nylon-cage bearings are still a suitable option. However, when the temperature rises beyond this threshold, it's recommended to switch to bearings with machined brass or steel cages for improved performance and longevity. Understanding the appropriate bearing material for different temperature ranges is crucial for maintaining equipment efficiency and reducing maintenance costs. Choosing the right type of cage—whether nylon, steel, or brass—can make a significant difference in the overall performance and lifespan of the bearing system.
