In the installation of tapered roller bearings, theoretical analysis and practical examples have shown that the standard deviation of bearing components can generally meet the requirements for bearing width tolerance. As a result, the installation of single-row conical bearings can often use the exchange method. However, in real-world production, factors affecting the bearing width are not limited to dimensional errors alone. Shape errors, such as the convexity of the raceway and the roller elements, also play a significant role. Additionally, other component misalignment or tolerances can influence the final bearing width. This means that relying solely on the standard 5R calculation method during the exchange process may lead to discrepancies between theoretical and actual values. For instance, while the calculated width might be within acceptable limits, the installed bearing may fail to meet specifications. To address this issue, adjusting the scale of the reference during installation—ensuring that the calculated dimensions are accurate at a specific point—can help achieve better results. During the manufacturing of tapered roller bearings, both the rollers and the inner and outer raceways are conical surfaces. The thickness of the conical contact base, the inner and outer conical contact surfaces, as well as the diameter, cone angle, and length of the rollers and the cone all contribute to the overall performance and accuracy of the bearing.
