In contrast, a lockless switch, also called a momentary switch, only maintains its state while it is being pressed. Once you let go, it automatically returns to its default position. For example, when you press a momentary switch, it closes the circuit, but once you release it, the switch opens again. This type of switch is often used in applications where temporary activation is needed, such as doorbells or control panels. Some switches, like illuminated switches, combine both functions. They include an LED inside the button to indicate the switch’s status. These switches typically have a resistor connected in parallel with the switch contacts, allowing the LED to light up when the switch is activated. What is a locked and a lockless button switch? A locked button, also referred to as a self-resetting switch, works by staying in the pressed position until manually released. Once you let go, it resets to its original state. On the other hand, a lockless button switch, or a momentary switch, only stays in the pressed position while it is actively being pressed.
