Evaporative air coolers, also known as cooling fans, operate on a simple yet effective principle. When the fan is activated, it creates a negative pressure inside the unit, drawing in outside air through a specially designed wet pad. This process helps to lower the temperature of the incoming air by utilizing the evaporation of water from the wet curtain, which cools the air to nearly the wet-bulb temperature of the outside air.
The cooling effect is most noticeable when the outdoor air is hot and dry. In such conditions, the temperature of the cooled air can be 5–12°C lower than the ambient temperature, and in some cases even up to 15°C. The greater the temperature difference, the more efficient the cooling becomes. This makes evaporative air coolers ideal for use in warm climates or industrial settings where traditional air conditioning might not be practical.
One of the key advantages of this system is that it continuously brings in fresh outside air, maintaining good indoor air quality. Unlike conventional air conditioners, which recirculate air, evaporative coolers ensure a steady supply of oxygen-rich air, making them suitable for environments like textile and knitting workshops. These machines not only improve working conditions by reducing heat but also help in maintaining humidity levels, which can reduce fiber breakage during spinning and enhance the quality of finished products.
The design of an evaporative air cooler typically includes a honeycomb-shaped wet pad made from high-performance materials. This pad has a large surface area, allowing for maximum contact between the air and the water. A water circulation system constantly wets the pad, while a high-efficiency, low-noise fan draws air through the wet curtain. As the air passes through, it absorbs heat from the water, causing the air to cool down. At the same time, the evaporation of water increases the humidity of the air, giving the unit its dual function of cooling and humidifying—ideal for environments where both temperature and moisture control are important.
Industrial cooling fans, often referred to as dry coolers, work differently. They rely on the evaporation of water within a chiller to cool the air passing through the system. These units are commonly installed either on the floor of a cold storage room or mounted on the ceiling of a warehouse, depending on the specific application and space requirements.
Evaporative air coolers have gained popularity across various regions in China, including Fujian, Sichuan, Guangdong, Zhejiang, Xinjiang, Hunan, Hubei, Guangxi, Henan, Hebei, Shandong, Shanxi, Jiangxi, Jiangsu, Yunnan, Guizhou, Anhui, Ningxia, Qinghai, Gansu, Shaanxi, Hainan, Inner Mongolia, Beijing, Shanghai, Chongqing, Tianjin, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau. Their widespread use highlights their effectiveness in different climates and industries.
