"Classification of combustion performance of building materials and products" officially released

The National Fire Protection Standardization Technical Committee's Fireproof Materials Subcommittee has taken charge of managing the standard, with the Sichuan Institute of Fire Research under the Ministry of Public Security responsible for revising the mandatory national standard GB8624-2012 titled "Comprehensive Combustion Performance of Building Materials and Products." This updated version was officially released by the National Standardization Management Committee and will come into effect on October 1, 2013.

This new standard replaces the previous GB 8624-2006, which focused on the classification of combustion performance. The revised version introduces more detailed classifications and criteria for different levels of combustion performance. It also adds specific requirements for certain types of products and updates the information related to identification and labeling of fire resistance levels. The implementation of this standard is expected to significantly enhance fire safety in construction projects, reduce potential fire risks, and improve regulation across the industry.

In addition to GB8624-2012, the recommended national standard GB/T 29416-2012, "Test Method for Fire Performance of Exterior Wall Insulation Systems for Buildings," was also issued. These standards are crucial for ensuring that materials used in real-world applications meet the required safety standards.

To ensure proper implementation of GB8624-2012 and better understanding of GB/T 29416-2012, the Fireproof Material Subcommittee of the National Fire Protection Standardization Technical Committee recently collaborated with the National Fireproofing Material Inspection Center to hold a public meeting and seminar on both standards. These events aimed to clarify the requirements, address concerns, and promote compliance among manufacturers, inspectors, and project developers.
