As the disease progresses, it spreads from the initial infection point to the entire plant, reducing the plant's ability to photosynthesize. This leads to a yield loss of up to 10% in mild cases and over 30% in severe infections. The disease thrives under high humidity, warm temperatures, and after typhoons, when wind and rain help spread the spores rapidly. To manage this issue effectively, farmers should avoid planting only one variety and instead use a mix of different maturity types. Choosing resistant or immune sugarcane varieties is also an important preventive measure. Regular monitoring of the fields is essential, especially between July and September. Diseased and dead leaves should be removed promptly to improve air circulation and reduce humidity in the field. Proper disposal of infected material is necessary to prevent further contamination. In addition, maintaining good drainage in the sugarcane fields is vital. Drainage ditches should be kept clear to prevent waterlogging. After a typhoon, supporting the sugarcane plants and applying nitrogen-rich fertilizers can help them recover more quickly. During June and July, it is critical to target the disease center and apply appropriate treatments. A recommended solution is a **fungicide** such as Bordeaux mixture, made by mixing 0.5 kg of copper sulfate and 0.5 kg of lime in 50 liters of water. Alternatively, a carbendazim solution diluted at 500-1000 times can be used. Another option is to mix 1 kg of sulfur powder with 4 kg of lime powder and sprinkle it on the leaves early in the morning when the dew is still present. These methods can help control the spread of the disease and protect the crop from significant losses.
