Development of stoves

1. Early Stage (Before 1980): Simple Products with Limited Functions Before the 1980s, China's gas industry was still in its early stages of development. The use of city gas was very limited, with only about 10% of the population having access to it. In rural areas, gas was almost unheard of. At that time, gas stoves were just beginning to appear on the market, and their design was basic, with very few functions. Each stove had a simple structure, mostly made of cast iron with surface coatings or paint. There was no electric ignition system, and the manufacturing process was quite primitive.

2. Development Stage (1980–1990): Improved Durability and Reliability Starting in the 1980s, with the opening up of the economy and the rise of the market system, the gas appliance industry began to grow rapidly. Foreign brands started entering the Chinese market, and the number of manufacturers increased from around 10 to nearly 100. The industry expanded beyond state-owned enterprises to include collective and private companies as well. International manufacturers also partnered with local firms, which helped improve the quality and appearance of gas appliances.

During this period, there were significant improvements in components such as panels, burners, and ignition systems. Panels were now made of cold-rolled steel with spray finishes, while burners used cast iron with plating or zinc coating. Electronic piezoelectric ignition was introduced, increasing the success rate of lighting and improving the overall durability and reliability of gas stoves.

3. Breakthrough Stage (1990–2006): Diversified Products with Modern Designs By the 1990s, China's economy was booming, and so was the gas appliance industry. With the introduction of advanced foreign technologies, Chinese gas stoves saw major innovations in design, materials, and functionality. The variety of cooktops expanded, with more modern styles, better safety features, and improved performance.

Materials evolved significantly during this time—cast iron was gradually replaced by stainless steel, non-stick coated surfaces, tempered glass, and even ceramic panels in later years. Production processes became more automated and intelligent, and energy efficiency, environmental protection, and user safety became key focuses. This period marked a turning point for the gas stove industry in China, setting the stage for future advancements.
