An Austrian company launched an artificial floating island. The founder of the company, Gabor Orschos, told AFP reporters on the 25th that it will become a new “toy” for the rich.

This man-made floating island named “Orchesche” is actually a large luxury yacht with a length of 37 meters and a width of 20 meters. There are 6 luxury double sea-view rooms with an area of ​​20 square meters. It can accommodate 12 guests plus up to 4 island staff.

The floating island adopts a cascading design and the living space area reaches 1,000 square meters. The island is full of amusement facilities, equipped with a Jacuzzi, diving equipment, water sports equipment, etc. There is also a dedicated sunbathing area, barbecue area, and the bar can accommodate up to 15 guests.

The floating island adopts an eco-friendly design and is powered by solar panels and wind turbines with an area of ​​more than 120 square meters, and is self-sufficient.

It does not normally use engines, but it can be parked anywhere, according to the wishes of the island's owners. However, just in case of sudden, bad weather, the island is equipped with two diesel engines.

The end of the next year

A portion of the island’s water is obtained through seawater desalination. In addition, the island’s circulating water system will also reach the drinking water level.

The distribution of energy on the island is controlled by the computer system. During the day, solar panels provide energy, and cold and hot adjustments are mainly achieved through circulating seawater.

The floating island list price is 5.2 million euros (about 6.5 million US dollars) and there are currently no finished products. Buyers can customize according to individual needs, such as requesting a small kitchen.

Olschos said that they are building prototypes of floating islands in Germany and Hungary, which are expected to end in 2013. Once the order is put into production, the initial location will be selected in Slovakia. He hopes that the first batch of finished products will be available within 18 months to 2 years. At that time, the first "Orchesche" will be transported along the Danube to the Black Sea and then to the customer's designated place.

Artificial floating islands are sold to the super-rich class. Mr. Orshish said: “There are people all over the world who are interested in it, such as Australia, China and the United States. We have already received the first batch of orders and will receive potential buyers from Australia next week.”

As a designer of artificial floating islands, Orschos said that the previous floating island cost more than $10 million. His goal is to create a "land luxury and luxury yacht complex" with lower cost.
