Toshiba 5cm square organic thin film photovoltaic cell conversion efficiency of 9.9%

Toshiba announced on July 31, 2014 that the conversion efficiency of the 5cm square organic thin film photovoltaic (OPV) module that the company trial-produced reached 9.9%. This is the highest level in the world for modules of the same size. In addition, the conversion efficiency of the 1cm square cell reaches 11.2%. The goal is to achieve a conversion efficiency of more than 10% for large modules of about 30cm square by 2015.

Toshiba announced in September 2012 that the efficiency of the 5cm square OPV module was 7.7% and the unit efficiency was 9.2%. This time, Toshiba improved the self-developed p-type organic semiconductor material that supports long-wavelength light, and also adopted an inverted structure (inverted structure).

The manufacturing process is still the same as the module released in September 2012, and "Meniscus Coating" is still used. However, this time the combination used simulation techniques to find the optimal structure of the component and successfully increased the fill factor (FF). All these contribute to the realization of high conversion efficiency.
