Dieffenbacher introduces D-SMC composite technology

In the traditional SMC (single-sheet molding compound) technology, the production of semi-finished SMCs and the molding of semi-finished products are separated in space and time. Therefore, high logistics and processing costs are required to ensure stable semi-finished products. And the final product quality. The direct SMC technology (abbreviated as D-SMC) developed by Dieffenbacher GmbH of Germany eliminated the packaging, storage and logistics steps of SMC semi-finished products. With direct technology, it is possible to continuously produce molding compounds, which are then pressed into products in direct subsequent extrusion-compression molding processes. This innovative one-step process eliminates the cooking time that lasts for several days and is a great advantage both in terms of time and cost. This process reduces the time it takes for raw materials to be converted into products and saves logistics costs. The elimination of semi-finished intermediate processes also allows simultaneous adjustment of various components of the formulation (eg fillers and reinforcing fibers) during the process.

D-SMC's first pilot production line has been put into operation.

After the SMC cutter in the D-SMC system cuts the material, the material is automatically fed into the press mold. The D-SMC line has a width of 800 to 1600 mm and a design capacity of 500-1000 kg/h. A single main line can be connected to several presses to fully feed these presses. The effective production width of the production line can be adjusted online.

The glass fiber content of this D-SMC can reach 28% to 38%. With the addition of hollow glass microspheres, the Dieffenbacher plant can even produce low-density SMC. The main control system of the production line is connected with the direct batching station, cutting station, automatic feeding device and press, and can set and change the formulation of different products within a few minutes. In order to ensure quality, all process parameters are monitored and recorded.
