A few days ago, a user from Putian shared a post on social media about an ATM machine that was in shocking condition. "At first glance, it looked like a forgotten cash machine. But actually, it's still functional. You can only use it for cash transactions, but the mess is really bad," the post said, accompanied by a photo. Netizens reacted strongly to the image, with one commenting, "This is too dirty—how many days has it been since they last cleaned it?" Another wrote, "Please get someone to clean it up soon. You have to wear gloves just to take your money."
The ATM in question is located at the northeast corner of the intersection of Fenghuang Road and Weitang South Street in Chengxiang District. A reporter visited the site and confirmed that the machine wasn’t in good shape. The screen and casing were covered in dust and grime, and there was trash scattered around the dispenser. However, the keypad appeared to be relatively clean.
Wang Xiao, a shop employee near the ATM, told the reporter that the area gets busy at night with food stalls and barbecue vendors, leading to a lot of smoke and soot. He speculated that frequent users might not wash their hands before using the machine, which could contribute to the dirtiness. "It’s even worse in some areas," he added. He also suggested that banks should improve their cleaning efforts, as the current state might be deterring customers from using the ATM, especially on weekdays.
When the reporter contacted the Putian branch of the bank, a staff member explained that they regularly clean the area around the ATM and apply wax to the surface. However, due to high levels of dust on the road and some people littering, the machine remains stained. "It's a challenge," the staff admitted. "We're trying our best, but we need public cooperation too."
In response to the issue, the Industrial Bank's Sakata Branch confirmed that they had already sent staff to clean the machine again and plan to increase the frequency of cleanings. They also urged the public to use the machines responsibly and help maintain a clean environment for everyone.
